What is
SyngaSmart

SyngaSmart is a renewable energy technology, designed and manufactured by RESET for the production of carbon-negative heat and power through an original biomass gasification system.
It consists of a range of integrated and automated plants – from 50 to 200 kWe – available in containerized or forklift-ready configuration.
The modular and scalable design allows quick installation both indoors and outdoors, without requiring complex civil works. Furthermore, the plants are equipped with sensors and IoT electronic devices enabling complete remote management and monitoring.

How it works

SyngaSmart technology is based on the integration of multiple processes coordinated by a sophisticated automation logic.

BIOMASS TRANSFORMATION FROM SOLID TO GASEOUS FUEL

The gasification process allows to generate a gaseous biofuel (BioSyngas) through a thermochemical degradation of biomass such as wood waste, agricultural residues, and organic byproducts. It takes place at about 900 °C in a closed reactor and in lack of oxygen: under these conditions, biomass is decomposed in a mix of combustible gases and a small percentage of solid residue rich in carbon, the BioChar. The gas is subsequently cleaned, cooled and filtered.

HEAT AND POWER GENERATION

The gas produced is now ready to be sent to a generator - an engine coupled to an alternator or a burner with boiler – for the conversion of chemical energy into electrical and thermal energy. In the case of cogeneration, the latter is recovered through heat exchangers that intercept heat in the gasification phase, from the engine coolant and from the exhaust.

REMOTE CONTROL AND AUTOMATION

SyngaSmart is an integrated system of mechanical and thermochemical processes governed by an articulated IoT architecture and by automation systems which, through pressure and temperature sensors, valves, probes, gearmotors, augers, pumps and inverters, allow to manage the plant with minimal human intervention, both locally and remotely through dedicated software and app.

What it does

1. Waste biomass volume reduction up to 95%

SyngaSmart can process up to about 2.000 tons / year of solid biomass directly where it is produced, thus reducing the costs and environmental impacts associated with transport and disposal. For larger quantities or energy needs , simply add one or more modules.

2. Programmable renewable energy

Unlike other non-programmable technologies, SyngaSmart allows 24h energy generation with constant supply of biomass, reducing human intervention and supervision to the minimum. Furthermore, the gasification process enables the highest energy recovery from biomass without the typical emission impacts associated with combustion plants, particularly ashes and dust.

3. Carbon sequestration: Biochar

While displacing fossil fuels usage and the related emissions of new Carbon, SyngaSmart also sequesters biomass Carbon in a solid and stable form, the Biochar, that beyond representing a powerful soil conditioner, allows the creation of artificial carbon sinks.

PowerSkid

PowerSkid is the skid-mounted, forklift ready version of SyngaSmart cogeneration plants.

Available from 50 to 200 kWe in combined heat and power configuration, or as PowerSkid HEAT (150 kWth), it is a compact system including all the necessary equipment: feedstock hopper, up to 4 gasification units, gas cleaning and cooling, automatic biochar extraction, single or double genset with thermal recovery, electrical panel and management software.

CHP

CHP is the containerized SyngaSmart version, designed for outdoor installations and maximum plant protection.

Available from 50 to 200 kWe in combined heat and power configuration, or as HEAT version (150 kWth), it includes: biomass tank, feedstock hopper, up to 4 gasification units, gas cleaning and cooling, automatic biochar extraction, single or double genset with thermal recovery, electrical panel and management software. The modular design allows to customize the whole installation with pre-treatment modules and accessories, according to the specific application requirements.

GAS Unit

GAS Unit is the modular solution for gaseous biofuels production from solid organic biomass. Available in either skid-mounted or containerized version, starting from 130 Nm3/h, it comprises one or more gasification units, syngas cleaning and cooling, automatic biochar extraction, electrical panel and management software, gas supply ramp.

GAS Unit can be installed for existing biomass plants revamping or repowering, including traditional diesel or natural gas gensets.

Syngasmart

Biochar

GreenChar is the name of the biochar produced with SyngaSmart technology and is characterized by high porosity, high surface area and carbon concentration (about 70%). In addition to being a promising tool for regenerative agriculture, biochar is also a concentrate of Carbon from atmospheric CO2: producing and using biochar in fact allows the creation of artificial “carbon sinks” with results equivalent to planting trees in terms of Carbon storage, but with an important difference: the Carbon contained in the biochar is stable and does not react with oxygen, therefore it does not decompose.

In other words, once incorporated into the soil, the biochar allows to permanently remove the equivalent CO2 from the atmospheric cycle.
